The City and County of San Francisco (CCSF Shape Up @ Work) Initiative was implemented in Spring 2006 by Mayor Gavin Newsom. The initiative includes collaboration with the City's Department of Human Resources, Department of Public Health, and Health Service System and is designed to prevent worksite-based injury and illness and promote a healthy lifestyle among CCSF employees.
The primary goal of CCSF Shape Up @ Work is to ensure that all city employees work in environments that support healthy eating and physical activity through the development and implementation of policy, programs and events.
CCSF Shape Up @ Work Successes!
In February 2006, CCSF implemented Active for Life (AFL), a ten-week employee based health and wellness program developed by the American Cancer Society that uses a combination of individual and team-based approach to encourage people to be more active and to eat healthier foods on a regular basis. This is the first time that AFL was implemented in CCSF and approximately 700 employees participated represented more than 10 departments.
