Annual Report on Number of Employees Completing the Online Harassment Prevention Training

State law requires supervisors, or anyone who acts as a lead, to take harassment prevention training every two years. The training focuses on a supervisor/leads responsibility to report conduct that may violate the City’s EEO Policy, guidance regarding federal, state, and City laws prohibiting harassment, examples of conduct that constitute harassment and sexual harassment, and strategies to prevent harassment in the workplace. Some City departments require all of its employees to take the training. This report shows the number of employees, by department, who completed the online harassment prevention training in FY 2017-18 and FY 2018-19. Beginning in 2020, per Mayor London Breed’s Executive Directive and the Board of Supervisors amendments to the Administrative Code, all employees will be required to take the training.

City and County of San Francisco Launches Gender Inclusion Policy for Transgender and Gender Nonconforming City Employees

New Gender Inclusion Policy for City Employees

DHR and the Office of Transgender Initiatives have launched a new gender inclusion policy for the City. The policy benefits transgender and gender nonconforming City employees, applicants, and contractors by reinforcing the City’s values of diversity and inclusion, and providing clear direction for employees, managers, and HR professionals. The policy is accompanied by guidance for human resources professionals and transitioning employees, and includes protocols for using chosen names and pronouns, accessing gender-specific facilities, maintaining confidentiality, and more.

Office Ergonomic Awareness Training

Human Resources Director Micki Callahan launches Office Ergonomic Awareness training through the electronic learning management portal. The program was developed in collaboration with DHR’s Workforce Development Division, Workers’ Compensation Division, the Department of Public Health, and safety experts from many other departments. Office Ergonomic Awareness training instructs employees who regularly use computer equipment how to increase comfort, improve safety and reduce the risk of injury. It is available to all city employees. To access the program, log in to the SF Employee Portal.

Workers’ Compensation Alternative Dispute Resolution Program Launch!

Human Resources Director Micki Callahan proudly announces the July 1, 2019 launch of the San Francisco Alternative Dispute Resolution Program or “Carve-Out” for sworn members of the San Francisco Police Officer’s Association and the San Francisco Fire Fighters Local 798. These labor agreements, approved by Mayor London N. Breed and the State Division of Workers’ Compensation, create more efficient ways of managing work-injury claims.  Our program, overseen by Workers’ Compensation Director Peggy Sugarman in collaboration with a Joint Labor Management Committee, is designed to reduce litigation and costs by:

 

  • Having a Member Advocate/Ombudsperson available to provide injured employees with information and assistance in resolving any concerns or disputes;
  • Addressing disputed medical issues promptly using pre-approved Independent Medical Evaluators; and
  • Moving disputes quickly to pre-approved mediators and arbitrators for prompt resolution.
