The Department of Human Resources issued the following statement after the United States Supreme Court decision protecting LGBTQ employees from discrimination in the workplace:
The recent US Supreme Court decision, Bostock v. Clayton County, marks a substantial milestone for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Americans. The majority (6-3) ruling provides protections against discipline, termination and prohibits discrimination in hiring based on sexual orientation or gender identity. This decision immediately provides millions of LGBT people across the country with the same type of workplace rights that all Americans are to be afforded under the 1964 Civil Rights Act. San Francisco and the State of California have long held that employees cannot be discriminated against because of who they are or who they love, . We are glad to see that after years of advocacy, that the Supreme Court has found that these rights should be extended to all people.
As we celebrate this Pride month and this significant victory for the LGBT rights, we remain vigilant as the fight for full equality goes forward until every person can live without fear of discrimination of any kind.
