New COVID-19 Basic Health and Safety Training now available!

All City employees are required to watch this training before the end of February 2021. For directions on how to find the training in SF Learning, click on the PDF document below.​

The DHR Instructional Design Team has created numerous eLearning modules to support employee training and scale learning across all City departments. The following sections summarize the City’s online training requirements.

These online trainings are free and available in SF Learning for all City employees. To access one of the eLearning modules listed below, follow these directions:

  • Log into your Employee Gateway account.
  • Open SF Learning under the “Work Links” tab.
  • Click the magnifying glass icon at the top right corner of the SF Learning webpage to search for courses.
  • Type in key words from the title. (eg. "Ethics", "Implicit Bias", "Whistleblower", or "Telecommuting") in the search bar.
  • Click "Launch" to open the training course.
  • Please use either Chrome or Firefox browsers to view these trainings. The modules will work more smoothly if your browser is fully updated. Do not use Internet Explorer.

Required Citywide Trainings:

Training Requirements for All City Employees

Bystander Training:

Available in Spring 2021; Required every other year

COVID-19 Basic Health and Safety Training:

Required to meet Cal-OSHA requirements; Available in mid-January

Cybersecurity Training:

Required annually

Disaster Service Worker:

Required during onboarding

Harassment Prevention Training (1-hour):

Available in Spring 2021; Required every other year

Introduction to Implicit Bias:

Recommended for all City employees

New Employee Orientation:

Required during onboarding

Office Ergonomic Awareness:

Recommended for all employees working in office settings

Telecommuting for Employees ("Is Telecommuting an Option for Me?"):

Required for all employees who will telecommute

Whistleblower Protection Awareness Training:

Required during onboarding

Training Requirements for Supervisors and Managers

Bystander Training:

Available in Spring 2021; Required every other year

Cybersecurity Training for Supervisors:

Required annually

Harassment Prevention Training for Supervisors, Managers, and Leads (2-hours):

Available in Spring 2021; Required every other year

Employees who need to complete harassment prevention training now should take the supervisor training offered by the Department of Fair Employment and Housing (DFEH) until the City can provide an updated training module in SF Learning. To receive credit for taking the DFEH’s training, employees must provide their certificate of completion to their DPO. The DPO should then submit the certificate to Eric Lavina, DHR EEO Management Assistant. DHR will update PeopleSoft to indicate that the employee completed the training.

Introduction to Implicit Bias:

Required every other year

Telecommuting for Supervisors ("Managing a Telecommuting Employee"):

Required for supervisors who will manage a telecommuting employee

Whistleblower Protections - Supervisor Duties:

Required by April annually

Training Requirements for HR Professionals

Fairness in Hiring:

Mandatory every year for all hiring personnel and interview panelists

HR Essentials:

Highly recommended for all HR professionals

Training Requirements for Other Audiences

Disaster Service Worker Orientation:

For employees assigned to COVID-19 DSW work

Core Interactive Ethics and Sunshine Training:

Required for Deputy Directors and employees who have responsibilities for contracting and/or purchasing within six months of assuming position, and every two years thereafter

Ethics Training and Sunshine Ordinance Training:

Required within 30 days of assuming office and annually by April 1st for City officials, department heads, and commissioners who are required to file the annual Statement of Economic Interests (Form 700) directly with the Ethics Commission, by using its Netfile system

*Fairness in Hiring:

Mandatory every year for all interview panelists (employees and external panelists)

*Introduction to Implicit Bias:

Required for all Commissioners within 60 days of assuming office; and every five years

*For non-City employees who do not have access to SF Learning, contact to request a direct training link.
