Mayor London N. Breed issued the following statement regarding the guilty verdict issued today in the trial of Derek Chauvin for the murder of George Floyd.

Today, at a ceremony in City Hall, Mayor London Breed swore in Carol Isen as the City’s newest Human Resources Director. Isen’s nomination was approved unanimously by the Board of Supervisors two days earlier.

In accordance with Ordinance NO 299-18, the Department of Human Resources, the Ethics Commission, and the Controller’s Office have created trainings and materials to promote and publicize new whistleblower protections.

The recent violent attacks on Asians and Asian Americans, including this week’s horrific shooting in Atlanta that took the lives of eight innocent people, are shocking and have deeply affected many of our Asian and Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) employees and people across the country.

Nominated by Mayor London Breed, Isen has served as Acting Director of the Department of Human Resources since October 2020 and has decades of experience in human resources and labor relations.

An independent review will be led by former National Labor Relations Board Chairman William Gould and will be conducted alongside separate review by City Controller.
